    Hassan Thermal Power (P) Ltd. (HTPL) is a special purpose Company, promoted by Core Energy Enterprises Inc. of Canada, set up for implementing a 2×660 MW, imported coal based power plant near Hassan, Karnataka in two phases. The plant will be based on supercritical technology to increase the fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions perceptibly. Presently, Karnataka is facing a major power shortage, which calls for immediate augmentation of generating capacity, to overcome the expected deficit in power and energy demand. The Hassan Thermal Power project envisages lessening this deficit and providing tremendous boost to the power requirements of Karnataka. HTPL is promoted by an experienced team of professionals who have been exposed to many infrastructure projects and technologies in Indian industry, particularly its Energy Sector.

    “I am writing to you as foreign sponsor of Hassan Thermal Power (P) Limited, (“Hassan Thermal”) an Indian special purpose company incorporated to fulfill the promise of a power project awarded through an International Competitive Bid to build, own and operate an electricity generating plant in Karnataka (the “Power Project”). In this capacity it is a pleasure for me to congratulate you on the ascension of your position as Chief Secretary of the government of Karnataka. Rest assured that your objectives and those of Chief Minister Shri K. Siddaramaiah and Dr. Amita Prasad IAS Principal Secretary, Energy, and Hassan Thermal are aligned in providing affordable power to Karnataka for the benefit of its people and its commercial enterprises. For me it was uplifting to learn of Chief Minister Shri K. Siddaramaiah’s declared policy to facilitate expeditious clearance of Power Projects in the interest of the state.”

Important News

Government-Order
HTPL filed a Writ Petition No. 30351 - 52/2015 dated 22/07/2015 in the High court of Karnataka in July, 2015 against the Government of Karnataka and other respondents seeking inter alia, a Writ of Mandamus to be issued to the Government of Karnataka bearing upon the project. Writ admitted. Vide their Order No. EN 14 PPC 2011 dated April 11, 2016 Government of Karnataka Communicated that it was withdrawn approval given to Hassan Thermal Power (P) Ltd. for implementation of Coal based Thermal Power Plant at Hassan and not to process the initialed Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between ESCOMs and HTPPL on 25. 06. 2007. Thereupon, HTPL filed another Writ Petition No. 30954 - 55/2016 before the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka praying for issue for a Writ of Certiorari to the Government of Karnataka. All writs filed by the company have since been withdrawn.
Arbitration invoked under UNCITRAL RULES by HTPL has been stayed and HTPL have since filed SLP in Supreme Court upon which notice has been issued.
